Overview:
The 8th Annual Update in Acute and Emergency Care Pediatrics conference is a result of the collaboration between the four Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Centers (CRPCs) in Tennessee, the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TN AAP) and Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children (TN EMSC). The emphasis of this conference is to provide practical clinical information on several urgent, and emergent pediatric issues as well as simulation for practice in an atmosphere that encourages participant interaction.

Target Audience:
The conference is designed for pediatricians, emergency physicians, family practitioners, intensivists, residents, fellows, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and pre-hospital providers and any other health care professional that has a desire to increase their education in regards to pediatric in the acute and emergency care settings.

Conference Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Apply increased knowledge in pediatric acute care and emergencies
  • Practice improving skills for managing acutely ill children
  • Present evidence based, practical information on pediatric and acute emergency medicine topics for the practitioner

  • AMA: The University of Tennessee College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12 AMA PRA category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CEU: Certificates of attendance and CEUs will be provided for non-physicians attending this educational activity. The University of Tennessee designates this activity for up to 0.12 CEUs using the national standard that 1 live hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU. Pre-hospital personnel will have CEUs provided by the Georgia Committee for continuing education units.

Registration:
The registration fee includes course materials, breakfasts, lunch on Friday and snacks during breaks. Confirmation of your registration will be sent upon receipt of payment. Full refund will be given for written cancellations notices received before October 1, 2009. Cancellations after that date will be assessed an administrative charge. No refunds will be given after October 9, 2009. Please note that T C Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger Health Care System reserves the right to alter program titles, speakers, or sessions if circumstances so dictate, or the right to cancel or reschedule this conference due to an insufficient number of registrants.

Fees:
Physicians, NP's and PA's:  $250 early bird, $275 starting October 1
Nurses, RT's, Residents and Fellows:  $150 early bird, $175 starting October 1
Pre-Hospital Providers and EMS:  $100 early bird, $125 starting October 1

Rooms at the Chattanoogan Hotel (1201 South Broad Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402) are being offered at $139.00 single/double. Participants should contact the hotel directly at 1-800-619-0018 or click here to make room reservations. Please advise them that you are attending the 8th Annual Update in Acute and Emergency Care Pediatrics Conference, and provide them with the reservation code # 279596 to receive the conference rate. All rooms are subject to applicable taxes. Reservations must be received by October 1, 2009. After that date, reservations will be taken on a space available basis and may revert to a higher rate. Hotel check-in begins at 3:00 pm eastern time and check out is at 11:00 a.m. Individual cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance of the day of arrival to avoid a penalty of one night’s suite and tax.

Conference Site:
Situated along the Tennessee River and tucked away in the southern Appalachian Mountains, Chattanooga is a beautiful southern city currently enjoying a tremendous downtown renaissance. The city's riverfront entertainment district now boasts the Tennessee Aquarium, BellSouth Park, The Walnut Street Bridge, Ross's Landing, Coolidge Park, the Bluff View Arts District and the Tennessee Riverpark. Several more exciting riverfront venues are underway through the city's expansive Chattanooga Waterfront Project. In addition, dozens of quality restaurants, shops and entertainment venues have opened in the past several years.
