Conference Overview
The 11th Annual Update in Acute & Emergency Care Pediatrics conference is a result of the collaboration between the four Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Centers (CRPCs) in Tennessee, the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP) and Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children (TN EMSC). The emphasis of the course is to provide practical clinical information on urgent and emergent pediatric issues in an atmosphere that encourages participant interaction.
Conference Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Present evidence based practical information on pediatric and acute emergency medicine topics for the practitioner
- Recall available resources and practice improving skills for managing acutely ill children and pediatric emergencies
- Identify clinical practice guidelines related to multiple pediatric emergency situations and conditions
- Describe specific strategies to change the practice of providing care for the critically ill and injured pediatric patient
Target Audience
This course is designed for pediatricians, nurses, emergency physicians, family practitioners, intensivists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, EMS professionals, fellows, residents, healthcare students and others involved in the care of treating pediatric emergencies.

Registration
The registration fee for the Update in Acute & Emergency Care Pediatrics Conference includes course material, continental breakfasts, lunch on Friday and snacks during breaks. Confirmation of your registration will be sent upon receipt of payment. Full refund will be given for written cancellation notices received before March 9, 2012. Cancellations after that date will be assessed an administrative charge of $50. No refunds will be given after March 23, 2012. Please note that Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt reserves the right to alter program titles, speakers, or sessions if circumstances so dictate, or the right to cancel or reschedule this conference due to an insufficient number of registrants.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Tennessee Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Credit
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Vanderbilt School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for CME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel invites you to experience the rich culture and heritage of Music City USA and the true meaning of southern hospitality. This hotel is located within walking distance of Tennessee's Capitol and the Nashville Convention Center, and is only ten minutes from Nashville International Airport. Rooms at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel are being offered at $129 single/double. Participants should contact the hotel directly at 615-259-2000 or book online to make room reservations and ask for the "Update in Acute and Emergency Care Pediatrics Conference" room block to receive the conference rate. All rooms are subject to applicable taxes. Reservations must be received by March 20, 2012. After that date, reservations will be taken on a space available basis and may revert to a higher rate. Hotel check-in begins at 3:00 PM and check-out time is 12:00 PM. Individual cancellations must be made 72 hours in advance of day of arrival to avoid a penalty of one night room and tax. In the event the guest checks out prior to the guest's reserved check-out date, an early departure fee of $50 will be charged.
Parking
Parking at the Sheraton is $24 a night, $28 for valet.
Alternative parking is available at The Nashville Public Library:
$8 for more than 4 hours (the daily maximum for those who park before 5:00 PM on weekdays).
$4 for the evening maximum parking rate (after 5:00 PM) and weekend maximum parking rate (all day Saturday, all day Sunday).

Honky tonks on Lower Broadway, the Grand Ole Opry, historic Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame will certainly wet any music-lover's appetite. Not musical? History buffs can tour the State Capitol, the Tennessee State Museum, or visit the full sized reproduction of the Parthenon in Centennial Park. If the fine arts are more your speed, be sure to check out the Frist Center for the Visual Arts or the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) for the latest shows.
